Artwork Description
Creating this drawing served as a profound avenue for processing the loss of a loved one.
Initially, my focus was on the dishevelled pillow, a seemingly ordinary object that soon transformed into a powerful symbol, evoking the absence of my father-in-law Bill. We spent valuable time together over several weeks as he rested in palliative care, and I worked on this drawing between visits. The lines I drew to represent the folds in the sheets began to remind me of tree roots, and slowly the bed and pillow came to rest in an imagined landscape. This piece not only reflects my personal journey through sorrow, but also resonates with the universal experience of loss.
