Artwork Description
I lost my Grandma to cancer a number of years ago. Some months before she passed away I made her a wool embroidered lap rug that she used during the later stages of her illness as it was one of the few things that could be tolerated due to the pressure points and pain created by the spreading cancer to help keep her warm at home. With the somber circumstances, the rug was made in "happy" pastel colours as represented in the artwork. Grandma loved her garden so flowers were stitched diagonally across the rug with a cream binding around the edge. This is reflected in the reproduced piece of handmade bobbin lace and embroidery submitted. It has been made as a representational section of the original rug. After we lost her, I got the rug back which I treasure as I know it helped at a time when there was not a lot that could be done. It is tucked away with other keepsakes.
