"When you embrace the uncertain, life opens up unusual new paths. Seeds sown way back bloom as flowers in ways one can never fathom." ~ Subroto Bagchi
A creative practice re-awakened by the birth of my child has brought me under the wing of Care Beyond Cure to the bedsides of the dying and deceased, creating hand castings with their loved ones.
It is a privilege to enter that sacred space. I find it impossible to remain unchanged by its dialogue; the actual, the symbolic and the spiritual.
The mysteries of birth, life and death and the immense joy and sorrow that accompany them seem to settle in almost wordless places where for me, creative expression gives them eloquence.
In the spirit of oneness with each patient and their family, I take my lessons from the bedside, so that in death, there is another life better lived as a result.
At first, I saw hand casting as an opportunity to give where I have received; only to find that I have also, again, received.
"A bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers" ~ Chinese proverb
