Artwork Description
The idea of the metaphysical ‘veil' between the living & the dead was described to me as 'thinning', as my family went on the journey of palliative care with my father. One family member had dreams that revealed unexplained experiences that gave peace & calmed anxiety. Through faith & belief in an afterlife, this spiritual 'shift' was & still is comforting to them, now that my father has died.
This period of time infused my art practice with thoughts of the afterlife & the sacredness of nature as a place to process grief but to also accept the inevitability of death & the need to speak of it as part of the joy of living.
The performative aspect of using video as my medium to capture temporal still images to then explore through the medium of printmaking, allows for the unexpected serendipity of images infused with meaning. To carry our grief tenderly & lay to rest when we need to.
'Lay To Rest' 2025 Video Still, Photopolymer Photogravure Etching on Paper/Image size 27.5cm x 40cm
