Artwork Description
Spiked Armour is a sculptural work from Marson’s Sea Urchin series, which transforms discarded marine remnants into contemporary artworks that reflect on strength, care, and transformation. Sourced from Queen Victoria Market’s fish hall, sea urchin shells are salvaged from landfill.
At the centre of Spiked Armour are the urchin’s spikes: once defensive, now recontextualised as fragile, beautiful, biodegradable forms. The work explores the tension between protection and surrender, as well as the interplay between strength and vulnerability.
This artwork offers a quiet, tactile reflection on the dignity and care that underpins life. Spiked Armour invites us to see it as part of a larger natural cycle where endings are not abrupt conclusions, but passages filled with presence, connection, and beauty.
